Challenge
No two students are alike. In large classrooms grouped by age, students have different levels of English and learn at different speeds. Teachers may struggle to work towards curriculum objectives for the group while focusing on the specific individual needs of each learner. They may also need to improve their own English to teach more effectively.
Solution
To improve the quality of English language education in Brazil, we launched innovative educational partnerships with the states of Paraná, Mato Grosso, São Paulo, and Goiás. This collaboration has already given over 3.2 million middle and high school students access to an individualized online learning platform that allows every student to progress in English at their own pace.
Method
English teachers provide personalized support in class, having more quality time with the students who need it the most. In parallel, students use the digital learning platform matched to their level of English proficiency. They can access the app anywhere, with or without internet access, to learn English and to practice spoken English through AI-driven video roleplays. Teachers have access to the platform to improve their own English as well.
Results
The combination of interactive online study and in-person instruction has delivered impressive results:

Assessment:
We assess students and teachers with the EF Standard English Test (EF SET), the world’s first standardized digital English proficiency test, with AI-powered skill assessment. EF SET test scores are accurate and scientifically aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for all 4 language skills.
EF SET scores are also easily comparable to those of TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS and other international standardized tests.
